Janmashthami marks the celebration of the birth of Lord Krishna. On the eighth day of the black half of Bhaadra (August) Sri Krishna, the eighth Avatar or incarnation of Vishnu was born. Therefore, this day is known as Janmashthami or Krishna-Jamashthami.
